Resisting whiteness: Anti-racist Action in the UK

Saturday, 28th September 2019 at The Pleasance Theatre, Edinburgh

This one-day conference of talks and workshops will be centred on discussions of anti-racist action that has taken and is taking place in the UK, as well as ideas for what we can all do to challenge the structures that reinforce the domination of whiteness.

Following the inaugural sold out conference last year, Resisting whiteness is back to discuss more aspects of anti-racist action, and to facilitate radical organising. For our second conference we will explore the following questions through panel discussions, workshops and performance:

  • How has austerity affected crucial resources for womxn and gender non-conforming people of colour, and what are the interpersonal struggles that exist within these indispensable organisations?
  • What abolitionist methods, outlooks, and tactics are currently challenging existing systems of criminalisation, incarceration and detention?
  • What does it mean to be a queer and/or trans person of colour in a society that frequently does not want to see us?

Audience members will be joined by a mix of activists, academics, writers and artists (many of whom cross all those boundaries).

Join us as we explore these questions and more during ‘Resisting whiteness 2019: Anti-racist Action in the UK’, in Edinburgh at the Pleasance Theatre on Saturday 28th September, 2019.
